Culturally Responsive Mentorship & Life Skills Program

The Culturally Responsive Mentorship & Life Skills Program by EL Shama Cares Foundation Inc. empowers youth by connecting them with mentorship, guidance, and practical supports to thrive academically, socially, and personally. The program is designed for Black youth and other marginalized youth ages 13–21, providing a holistic approach that addresses systemic barriers, builds resilience, and fosters leadership.

Program Services Include:

  • Job Shadowing & Career Exploration: Exposure to various professions to help youth identify career goals and pathways.

  • Crime Prevention & Positive Decision-Making: Workshops and mentoring to reduce risk behaviors and promote safe choices.

  • Self-Advocacy Skills: Training youth to speak confidently for themselves in school, work, and community settings.

  • Family Mediation & Stabilization: Support for improving family communication and resolving conflicts.

  • Youth Volunteering & Leadership Opportunities: Engage youth in meaningful community service and youth-led projects.

  • Mental Health Coaching: Access to culturally responsive counseling, coping strategies, and wellness support.

  • Housing Support & Referrals: Guidance and resources for youth experiencing housing instability or transitional challenges.

 

Outcomes
Youth in the program gain confidence, life skills, and community connections that enhance school success, career readiness, and overall well-being. By addressing both personal and systemic challenges, the program fosters resilient, empowered, and community-minded youth leaders.
